Pass through her world
Like an architect ark sketch
Pipes going up in twenties
Cob pipes and shadowed stairs
Receding to alcoves and
Staring statues with broken
Broken broken hearts
Stained great windows hit
By golden water buried
In berry ink and ballroom
Stamps. Sisters stepping
Round the saintling ants that
Are crawling inside the
Brushwork. Sterling ships,
Silver sterling ships
Are roosting in the coves
Of the Great Bridge.
"I was gonna Die Young,"
Tangerine portholes
And lime-darkened portholes
Shake with her voice.
Water quakes across the castles
That were drawn up.
Great tall castles call out
Up and down the
Watershed waterfall. Studding
The water. The towers
Hide three sided rooms lined
With books and beating
With notes. Field notes ring
Across the water.
Orange cones and blue lights
Line the runways
And the planes are still slowing.
Great halls, where walls
Raise the night to the organ sky
"You will still Haunt Me,"
Reverberate the walls, and all
The guests run for
Their lives, holding hands
Shouting "Cathedral!
Cathedral! Cathedral!" and
The doors burst open
And heaven is full of piano keys
Bursting with lines.
And the world is full of breaking,
Eyes full of fright.
Myrrh branches and saffron stems
Go where they go
Cedars crawl over the bricks
Where the moon and stars
Forgot the dark blue sky. Murmur
Cathedral, cathedral,
Cathedral, deep grass, mandarin glass,
All the guests are gone
Cathedral, cathedral, cathedral,
Burnt beams. Lion heart
Line art. Murmur, Cathedral,
Cathedral, cathedral.
Cathedral.
